Presentation of the Association to the Minister of Rural Development and Food

On 15 September 2026, the President of the Board, Dimitrios Favvas, and Board member Ioannis Manikis presented the Association, its membership and its strategic objectives to the Minister of Rural Development and Food, Margaritis Schinas, in the presence of Deputy Minister Ioannis Andrianos. The meeting took place with the valuable support of Neoklis Kritikos, Member of the Hellenic Parliament for Laconia.

We warmly thank the Minister for his time and attention. The Association continues its determined effort to bring out the value of Greek olive oil.

Call for applications: M.Sc. in Technology and Quality of Table Olives and Olive Oil, 2026-2027

The Department of Food Science and Technology of the University of the Peloponnese (Kalamata) accepts applications for twenty (20) places. The programme lasts three semesters, carries 90 ECTS and is taught in Greek. According to the programme secretariat, the deadline has been extended to Monday 28 September 2026; the call document still shows the original date of 21 September.

Notification letter on the establishment and strategic objectives

The Board of Directors addresses an official letter to ministries, independent authorities, universities, chambers of commerce and industry in olive-producing regions, and to trade and scientific bodies, announcing the start of the Association's official operation and extending an open invitation to cooperate.

First elected Board of Directors constituted in office

The General Assembly elected the first regular Board of Directors, which was constituted in office under President Dimitrios Favvas. The alternate members and the Audit Committee were also announced. The Association's 41 members represent approximately 90,000 tonnes of bulk and 10,000 tonnes of packaged olive oil — about 40% of an average Greek crop.

Convocation of the General Assembly and elections

The Association convened its members to a General Assembly with elections, to appoint the first regular Board of Directors, the Audit Committee and the alternate members.

The President of the Association, Dimitrios Favvas, argues that Greek olive oil should be treated as a national product, with a clear strategy, a recognisable origin identity, and a policy that keeps the added value inside the country.

Presentation of the Association's positions on the absence of a national strategy for olive oil, the cost-of-capital gap against competing producer countries, and the need to strengthen branded packaging.

Positions submitted to the Ministry of Rural Development and Food

A delegation of the Association met the political leadership of the Greek Ministry of Rural Development and Food and submitted a memorandum of sector priorities: water scarcity, a complete production cost model, origin identity and traceability, a gradual reduction of anonymous bulk sales, and the establishment of a national coordinating body for the olive sector.

Founding General Assembly — establishment of SYPETEEL

The founding General Assembly issued a call for collective, organised action to connect olive growing, olive mills, trade and the packaging industry into a single value chain, and elected a provisional Board of Directors chaired by Dimitrios Favvas.
